Subject Introduction and Features

The course is designed to divide over 2,000 years of history into nine distinct periods, with the aim of providing students with a comprehensive understanding of China’s development throughout the ages during their three years of junior high school.

 

This course adopts an inquiry-based learning approach to help students achieve the goal of "learning to learn". Through the study of historical events, students can learn to use various methods of historical study, such as organizing information, identifying viewpoints, comparing historical events, etc., to improve their thinking ability and cultivate the ability of independent learning.

 

Course Objectives

1. Understand China's important historical events, figures, national development and social and cultural landscape;

2. Understand and analyse relevant historical materials and cultivate the ability to study history;

3. To cultivate good moral character and personal sense of identity, belonging and responsibility to the country, nation and society;

 4. Cultivate an interest in learning Chinese history.

Event Highlights

Classes in Form 1 and 2 have conducted specialised lessons on the Conservation of cultural relics, based on the curriculum content. After completing the themed activities and worksheets, pupils gave presentations in class, enabling them to understand, appreciate and learn how to protect the treasures of Chinese cultural artefacts.

After the examination, teachers led the students to visit the Hong Kong Public Records Office where they actively participated in the activities and responded to questions from Office staff, from which they learned and understood the work of the public exhibition industry in Hong Kong.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Secondary 3 students participated in the "One Root, One Heart" - the Chiu Chow History and Culture Exchange Tour of the Mainland. The three-day and two-night itinerary includes a visit to Lianzheng Experimental School in Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou City, a ceramic workshop to experience pottery making, and a visit to the archway street and the ancient city. After dinner, teachers led the students to consolidate and reflect on what they had learned that day.
