Subject Introduction and Features

The tourism and hospitality industry has taken on a role of growing importance in the local economy. In equipping students for a rapidly changing society, the THS programme provides students with a solid foundation of knowledge about the industry.

THS enables students to explore and understand the relationship between individuals and society through the study of local and international tourism and hospitality trends and issues, and their social, economic and environmental impact. For example, the study of the social aspects of tourism and hospitality education will not only enhance students’ personal development, but also help them to develop a sense of ethical responsibility and a healthy hospitality culture of benefit to the community.

This subject provides a wide range of learning experiences, including visit to the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, hotel visit, Disney’s hospitality in practice, etc. Through these hands-on activities, students can gain a deeper understanding of how Hong Kong’s tourism and hospitality industries have developed, it also strengthens the knowledge they have learned in their courses. These activities also give students a clearer picture of various tourism and hospitality industries—such as current development trends, entry requirements, and progression pathways. As a result, students are better equipped to plan their future careers.
